50, NOT DEAD and looking forward to an epic decade

It seemed appropriate to create a blog post today.

It is my 50th birthday.

I started my podcast, 50, NOT DEAD because I feel great. I feel excited. I feel lucky. And I feel like I AM JUST GETTING STARTED.

But society says that 50 is old, outdated, washed up, done.

I am absolutely committed to helping change that narrative.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Natasha Ginnivan, a research fellow at the Ageing Futures Institute in Australia. She shared with me that ageism is so entrenched in our upbringing that it is at the subconscious level. In her words “it’s insidious because it is socially acceptable and we don’t realize it until self actualized”. Basically we don’t realize we look down on “old people” until we ARE “one of the old people”. We all need to work hard to change that. Because friends, we are all going to age.

Dr. Ginnivan started our conversation with this quote:

“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you know why - Mark Twain

I was born to connect with other people.

I was born to cheerlead people to be the best version of themselves.

I was born to do this work.

Let the games begin!
